Welcome to the second month of 12 Months of Sensory Dough! This month we are featuring Cloud Dough.
Last month, in January, we made Foam Dough. However, this Cloud Dough was far more successful with my toddler!
I wanted this Cloud Dough to be edible. Generally, it is flour and baby oil. However, I am never 100% sure whether Little J feels like taking a taste of play dough or not. So, I try to make all of my play doughs kid friendly and edible (you can find links for my play dough recipes at the end of this post)
For this recipe, I used 2 packets of Swiss Miss hot chocolate mix, and then filled my measuring cup the rest of the way up to 2 cups with flour. Then, I added 1/2 cup of olive oil and mixed it up with my hands. You should squish and knead the cloud dough together until the oil is evenly distributed to all of the dry ingredients.
Both of my little boys have had colds, so we stayed home yesterday for them to relax. So, this was the perfect activity for Little J to entertain him. What I didn’t expect was how long he would want to play with the Cloud Dough. Surprisingly, he didn’t try to eat it, even though it smelled heavenly!
First, we took it outside to our patio and I added in a candy scoop and a toy dump truck for him to play with. He really had fun with that, and we stayed outside for about 20 minutes with the tray. Being that we live in South Florida, it wasn’t long before we were too hot to stay outside. (Sorry snow covered friends!)
So, we took our Cloud Dough tray inside and added some more little cups and a spoon and he played with the Cloud Dough for another 45 minutes!! I was in shock! He was having the best time with the scoops, cups, and spoons, and transferring the dough from container to container.
It has a cool texture, because it is moldable, but crumbles with a little pressure.
I’m calling Cloud Dough a complete success!! It saved my day on a sick day, and I am forever in debt to the Cloud Dough 😉
