My mom has very a special relationship with my little boys. They are all best friends, and my mom doesn’t go more than a day or two without seeing the kids. She has always been my best friend, so to see the relationship she has with my kids is totally amazing. I am so thankful to have such a supportive, loving Mother in my life and more than that, I am thankful that my kids have such an awesome Grandma in their lives!
So, over the weekend I started shopping and preparing for Mother’s Day. It’s coming up super soon on Sunday, May 10th, and I wanted to make sure that I had everything I needed to create the best Mother’s Day gift ever for my Mom and Mother-in-Law.
I stopped at Walmart to pick up some cards and see what else they had that would make a nice gift. I was pleasantly greeted by the American Greetings “One Stop Shop” that had a huge selection of cards, gift bags, tissue paper, bows, and more!
I picked out some really cute cards and gift bags, and I was inspired by the floral theme of the American Greetings display to have the boys create an adorable DIY Mother’s Day Flower Pot for my Mom and MIL with supplies we also found at Walmart.
DIY Mother’s Day Flower Pot – gift idea from kids
We grabbed some plain clay flower pots in the garden section and a bunch of different colors of acrylic paint to decorate the pots with. We also bought beautiful Gerbera Daisy plants out in the garden section to transfer into our decorated pots.
The kids had an absolute blast painting the flower pots! They squeezed out every color of paint into paper plates, and went to work! It was so much fun to watch them paint the flower pots and pretty much the best thing ever to hear my older son say “Grandma is going to love this”!
I made sure to cover my table with a ton of paper and taped it down so that the paint didn’t get all over the furniture. Somehow, though, one of my black leather chairs now has a lovely shade of green leopard-like spots.
When the boys had finished their masterpieces, we let the flower pots air dry and then transferred the flower plants into them.
Once our one-of-a-kind gifts were complete, we packaged them in super cute American Greetings floral gift bags, with adorable American Greetings cards to match! The kids are so happy with the final results of their artwork, and convinced that they made their Grandma and Nonna the best Mother’s Day gifts ever! I have to say, they came out pretty cute.
