This coming weekend, as my family prepares to gather for Mother’s Day brunch at my home, I am truly looking forward to the fact that I still am blessed to have my maternal Grandmother to celebrate.
Always the classy lady, she told me that she would rather that I don’t share her exact age with the internet. Let’s just say that she’s old enough that when she was a single gal back-in-the day, and a US government employee, she had the fun experience to work with some of the first ever invented computers. Maybe that’s where I inherited my knack for computers?!
These days, she isn’t as mobile as she used to be, and she doesn’t drive a car anymore, which means she can’t be here in person with us as much as she would like to be. She’s been talking about how she would really like a cell phone to stay in touch with friends and family more easily. She does have a landline phone in her house, but she can’t always get up quick enough to reach the phone in time before it stops ringing.
She also is totally fascinated by all of the amazing new technology that is available and loves to borrow everyone’s cell phones look at photos of our extended family on text messages, Facebook, and of course wants to read what I’m writing about her here!
I decided that for Mother’s Day I would get her a cell phone of her own. On a recent trip to Walmart I picked up a cute ZTE Zinger phone and signed up for an Unlimited Talk, Text, and Web/Data plan (includes up to 1G of 4G LTE data). I also grabbed the $25 Starter Kit, which can be found on the same shelf as the phone, and the phone was quickly activated by a very helpful Walmart associate.
Since the Walmart Family Mobile plan is only $29.88 per month (for the first line), it’s something that I can definitely keep active for my Grandmother so she can be even more connected to her loved ones.
We brought the gift over to her house to give to her a bit earlier than originally planned, and she was beyond thrilled.
Making Family Memories with Grandparents
She opened up the box and couldn’t wait to try out her new ZTE Zinger! She wanted to make practice phone calls from it, and was super excited to see that she could text message, too!
For sure, one of the cutest things ever was watching my Grandma interact with my older son, her Great-Grandson. They shared laughs and definitely made some memories as they played with Grandma’s new cell phone.
I’m not sure who was doing the teaching, but it was pretty hilarious when my kid took my cell phone and went into another room of the house to go call Great-Grandma on her new cell phone! It’s a good thing the minutes are unlimited!
I love that making memories with grandparents is easier than ever. Staying in touch with family and friends is as simple as just one touch of a button.
This is definitely a memorable Mother’s Day for our family, and we can continue to make even more memories, whether we are near or far, with this awesome phone for my Grandma. I can’t wait to see a text message pop up on my phone from my Grandma, or be able to send a cute picture of my boys to her that she can actually see on her very own phone!
Now that you know how we are making family memories, let me know how you plan on making lasting memories this Mother’s Day?
