For any mother that has ever struggled with postpartum depression, you know it’s not an easy walk-in-the-park kind of thing to go through.
According to the American Psychological Association postpartum depression affects approximately 9-16 % of women, and somehow it seems like it is still such a taboo topic to talk about.
Kori Zwaagstra, who is the current Mrs. New Mexico, and one of the co-founders of Our Life Songs, is a wonderful advocate for any mom that has ever struggled with postpartum depression, or is currently struggling with postpartum depression. She speaks openly with how postpartum depression affected her and her family after the birth of her second son.
To see Kori talk about how she cried uncontrollably, and was in a full blown depression that made her unable to function fully as a mother, is heartbreaking.
Then, to see her in full pageant glam is such a feeling of victory to know that she overcame the darkness of depression. Which is why I selected Kori to interview for my new segment, The Eyes of Inspiration.
I find her story to be totally inspiring and she is a vision of strength. After interviewing Kori, I feel that she is truly a beautiful person not only on the outside, but on the inside as well. She is the kind of person that I felt like I have known for years, and we will definitely keep in touch.
