Our Christmas holiday season is off to a running start this year! We already have our tree, which is a huge accomplishment so early in the season for us!
We’ve been making some Christmas crafts and homemade ornaments, bought our Christmas pajamas, and we’ve been reading exciting books about Christmas, too!
The kids have been really enjoying The Night Before Christmas book, and love the beautiful illustrations of Santa and his elves. We were inspired to make some cute homemade Santa ornaments to resemble how Santa looks in the book.
These came out super adorable, and the kids really had a great time making them!
Kid Made Santa Christmas Ornaments
Here’s what we used to make our homemade “kid made” Santa Christmas ornaments from real wood slices (that we picked up from the place we bought our Christmas tree):
SUPPLIES
–Wood Slices (aka Tree Slice)
-white craft paint
-cotton balls
-glue
-scissors
HOW WE MADE THE ORNAMENTS:
First, we painted the wood slices with a quick coat of white paint. This definitely was the kids’ favorite part!
Then, while the paint dried, we cut out triangles from red construction paper. My 3 year old took the lead on this part of the Christmas crafting, and did a great job with the scissors (with close supervision, of course!)
Then, we glued the triangles onto the wood slices as a Santa “hat”. We also glued on the rest of Santa’s face with the googly eyes, tiny red pom pom as his nose, and cotton balls for his beard and top of his hat.
I’m so excited about how adorable these homemade Santa ornaments came out! I think the kids did a great job, and they are so proud to see their creations hanging from our Christmas tree!

This is our 3rd year joining in the fun with Mama Miss and 10 Days of a Kid Made Christmas Ornament series. It’s super fun and over 70+ kid made Christmas ornaments are featured from tons of great bloggers and their kiddos!
Last year we made a homemade reindeer ornament, and the year before we made a sparkly sequin Christmas tree. I love that I still have these to hang on my Christmas tree year-after-year. I especially love that I can add to my kid made ornament collection this year!
