Spring break is right around the corner, which means many of us are busy making spring break travel plans! Traveling with babies and little kids can be a bit tricky sometimes. Planning around naps, packing enough food and snacks, diapers, wipes, clothes, toys, stroller…the list goes on. We have taken the boys on quite a few trips now, and each time we go somewhere I figure out new little travel hacks to make things easier on our family.
Are you planning on taking a vacation with your kids for the upcoming break? I’m going to share some of my tips for packing and traveling with kids, to help make things go a bit smoother. With a few helpful planning tips and travel hacks, you’ll be out the door and on your way to your destination in a flash!
Spring Break Travel Tips – Packing for Kids
1. My boys each get to take their own suitcase on our vacations. Why? Well, this is mostly due to the fact that if they’re only using one suitcase they will argue over who gets to roll it! I know that sounds silly, but it’s one less headache and whine-fest for me to listen to if they each can roll their own stuff. Plus, it allows them to have their own personal space. It also helps to keep their clothes more organized and easy to know which clothes belong to which boy.
So, 1 mini suitcase per kid works for our family. This may not work for everyone, but it does help to keep things better sorted.
2. Instead of packing the kids’ suit cases with their clothes folded in a traditional way, I pack their clothing in individual gallon zip top bags according to the days of vacation. Each day that we will be away, I simply pick the corresponding bag and put the clothes on the kid! Easy peasy. This helps with picky toddlers who have a strong desire to pick out their own outfits. Even better, involve your child in the planning and packing process, so the outfits are kid-approved, too.
Before our most recent trip, I ordered some super adorable outfits from OshKosh B’Gosh, and the boys loved their new clothes and shoes! This made packing their clothes even easier, since they were excited to wear their new clothes.
Once you have decided on what each kid will wear each day of your spring break vacation, you’ll notice that the zip top bags fit so easily into a suit case! This packing method saves a ton of space!
3. Which brings me to my tip for traveling with kids…
With all of the extra space in your child’s suit case, don’t forget to pack their favorite toys to make travel a bit smoother. I personally like to grab Write & Wipe dry erase books for my boys to enjoy en route to our destination. New coloring books were a big hit when we traveled recently, as well as their LeapFrog tablets. PS- DON’T forget the chargers to any electronic devices you bring. Been there, done that. No bueno!
4. When traveling with kids, I’ve learned that you can never have enough snacks or baby wipes (even if your child is older, wipes are always a moms best friend!)
I hope you have a wonderful spring break trip!

Awesome tips! I love the bagged clothes, not just for ease, but for keeping the clothes clean with kids getting in and out of the bad. Your little guy is a cutie!
