Disclosure: I’m sharing #SausageFamily in my life as part of a Johnsonville sponsored series for Socialstars™
Grill season is upon us, my friends! We recently made over our backyard patio, and love to spend time out back with our kids, friends, and family. We use our grill quite often and make delicious bbq dinners that can be easily enjoyed on the patio.
One of my husband’s favorite meals of all time is sausage and peppers. His mom used to cook it Italian-style all the time when he was growing up. Making a sausage and peppers recipe can be easily adapted to make out on the grill, instead of spending hours over a stove! Even better, I love that this sausage and peppers recipe can be made into a sandwich and doesn’t require a fork!
Want to make your next backyard barbecue party a little more fun and a lot more tasty? Here’s what you’ll need to make these grilled sausage and peppers sandwiches:
Grilled Sausage and Peppers Sandwich Recipe
INGREDIENTS
– (2) yellow onions (sliced)
– (1) red bell pepper (sliced)
– (1) yellow bell pepper (sliced)
– (1) orange bell pepper (sliced)
– (1) green bell pepper (sliced)
– Johnsonville Brats (I used Beer Brats™ for this recipe)
– 4 tbsp (1/2 stick) butter
– 2 tbsp olive oil
– 1 tbsp balsamic glaze
– seasonings to taste (salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic powder)
– hot dog buns
(if you can’t find all of the different colored peppers, please feel free to use any color)
DIRECTIONS
First, fire up your grill and allow it to get hot. Now, add into a frying pan on the side of your grill with the butter. Season lightly with a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Sauté for approximately 10-15 minutes, stirring at regularly to avoid burning, but allow the onions to brown slightly.
Next, add in the sliced bell peppers and olive oil to the frying pan and mix together with the onions. Add in 1 tbsp of balsamic glaze and sir together with the veggies.
Put the Johnsonville Beer Brats™ onto the grill and cook according to the package instructions.
As the Beer Brats™ grill, keep stirring the veggies regularly, and allow them to carmelize a bit.
Once the veggies are fully cooked (about 20-25 minutes) and the Beer Brats™ have gorgeous grill lines on them, it’s time to assemble the sausage and peppers sandwiches! First, place a sausage on each bun.
Then, spoon some of the peppers and onions mixture on top of the Johnsonville Beer Brats™.
Serve and enjoy!! These sausage and peppers sandwiches are a great summer food idea for 4th of July or any time you feel like a great grilled meal!
Your guests will certainly be asking for more, and definitely be asking for the recipe. These are that good!
