2016 has been full of unexpected surprises…both good things, and not amazing things. It’s been our most eventful year yet, for sure. Looking back, it’s hard to believe that the entire year is over. Throughout the craziness of all of it, I am thankful for all of it and above all have reaffirmed my faith in the fact that God (or if you’re not a believer of the guy in the sky, the universe) has perfect timing for everything.
I vividly recall a simple conversation my husband and I had back at the way beginning of this year. We had just put the boys to bed, and we were hanging out watching tv in our bedroom. We had just recently moved into our new home in South Florida. A beautiful 2-story home that was in my “dream” neighborhood, a home I adored, a place I thought we would raise our kids for a long time.
I had an eery feeling of not quite boredom, but almost restlessness come over me. I looked over at my husband and said to him that I felt like we had accomplished nearly everything that we wanted to accomplish up to that point of our life. The children we struggled to have were quietly resting in their beds. I was living in the type of home I always wanted. Right down to the car parked in the driveway, I had all of the things on my vision board that I had ever imagined. I asked my husband, “do we sit back and enjoy the ride or set new goals?”
He simply said, “we set new goals.”
That was it.
The universe quietly set those plans into action, and we were unknowingly set up for a collision course with “new goals”.
The first part of the year started off like any other “normal” year, yet those new plans were quietly brewing in the background.
2016 Year in Review
Here’s a rough timeline of what 2016 looked like for us:
January 2016 – Kids having fun playing in our backyard.
February 2016 – Enjoying a quick parents-only break at Eden Roc Miami Beach (my happy place!)
March 2016 – Celebrating Easter at home with our crazy crew!
April 2016 – we celebrated 8 years of marriage! (throwback pic to our wedding day!)
May 2016 – This is when stuff starts going at a lightening fast, warp speed. This is where my life as I knew it got flipped, turned upside down (to the beat of Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song, please). My husband was offered a new position with his company, and he accepted at the end of the month. Our new journey began here, and most of the following months are a total blur.
Oh, but before all of that, we attended Disney’s Social Media Moms Celebration, which was an absolute blast!!
June 2016 – my husband moved out of the house and up to Orlando for his new job. This would begin our Summer long adventure of living in two places. We commuted back and forth from South Florida to Orlando for a few months. I usually didn’t know where I was at any given time. Half of the time I was at home with the kids, the other half we were living in a hotel.
In June I also had the amazing opportunity to fly to Los Angeles to appear in Stitch Fix’s Summer satellite media tour! I appeared in 14 national news segments in one morning, while showing off Stitch Fix’s clothing. Such a fun experience that I will never forget!
July 2016 – We celebrated the 4th of July at Disney World. Our South Florida home officially went up for sale. Later in the month, our older son turned 4, which we celebrated in South Florida. It was a month full of driving up and down the state of Florida, back and forth from South FL to Orlando.
August 2016 – In the beginning of August I decided I had enough driving and wanted our family to be together full time again. The kids and I joined my husband in Orlando, and we lived in a hotel for the month of August. The kids officially started school in Orlando, as well. We made an effort to start exploring local places here in Orlando, too! (below is a shot from DeLeon Springs State Park)
September 2016 -Our younger son turned 3 years old! We moved into an apartment in Orlando while waiting for our new Orlando home to be built, which they broke ground on in September.
October 2016 – Happy Halloween! My boys wanted to be Waste Management workers, and my husband and I gladly joined in the fun!
November 2016 – I celebrated my birthday at The Happiest Place on Earth (where else?!)
At the end of November, I was featured in Woman’s World magazine for my weight loss journey that I have previously shared about here on the blog! This was a very exciting moment for me to see my story in black and white print in a national magazine!
December 2016 – In the beginning of the month my Grandmother passed away at 93 years old. This was a very sad time for my family, as she was our long time matriarch and very beloved member of our family.
In December, we announced that our family is expecting another baby! We are excited and can’t wait to meet our new family member in 2017!
Overall, 2016 has taught me serious lessons in patience, and trusting that everything happens for a reason. My faith has definitely been tested this year, but today, on the last day of this year, I know that God had a plan all along…and still has one working for us.
There may be moments of doubt and uncertainty this year, but I know 100% without a doubt that I am truly blessed. I am lucky to be surrounded by an extremely strong support system, and to have such a beautiful family. No matter the sad, uncomfortable, tearful, and trying moments of 2016 (there were a lot of those!), I am truly fortunate to have everything and everyone that my heart has ever desired…and so much more. I’m looking forward to what 2017 has in store for my family.
Wishing you and your family a VERY Happy New Year, and a wonderful 2017!
