A homemade pie crust can truly take your pie recipe from “YUM” to “OMG THAT’S DELICIOUS”!
I recently made a fresh blueberry pie with blueberries straight from our local u-pick farm. The homemade pie crust was buttery, flaky, and oh so good.
If you want to elevate your pie crusts to the next level, here’s a homemade pie crust recipe to try next time you bake a pie:
Homemade Pie Crust Recipe
INGREDIENTS
– 3 cups all purpose flour
– 1 tbsp sugar
– 1 tsp salt
– 12 tablespoons COLD butter
– 2 tbsp unrefined coconut oil
– 1/2 cup ice water
INSTRUCTIONS
Place all dry ingredients into the bowl of your stand mixer and mix a few times around to combine ingredients.
Add in butter and coconut oil, and mix until the ingredients are thoroughly wet and crumbly.
Pour in the ice water and mix with dough hook attachment until the dough begins to form a ball. Then, turn off the stand mixer machine and continue to form the dough into a ball with your hands on a lightly floured surface.
Wrap the ball with plastic wrap and pop into the fridge for about 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, when you’re ready to use the dough, take it out of the fridge, remove from plastic wrap and cut the ball in half.
Then, on a floured surface, roll each ball out into a 12 inch circle. One will be for the top crust of your pie, and one will be for the bottom crust of your pie.
