One of my favorite things about living in Florida is the availability of fresh food. Here are my top tips for buying fresh produce…
I love living in Florida. I’ve lived here since I was a little girl, when my family relocated here from New Jersey. All of my boys were born here in the great Sunshine State, and it’s home. One of my favorite things about living in Florida (besides the obvious things like the fantastic weather and living close to the Mouse) is the availability of extremely fresh food. All of that sunshine year round gives us the ability to have some really awesome crops right here in FL!
Cooking delicious meals for my family using high-quality ingredients that taste like they just came from the farm is important to me. We will sometimes even head to a local farm to pick our own produce. When that’s not possible due to time constraints, it’s super convenient to be able to walk into my local Publix and grab produce that’s Fresh From Florida.
Recently I was able to pick up locally grown tomatoes, radishes, and strawberries that are Fresh From Florida on my latest trip to Publix.
Tips for Buying Fresh Produce
– When buying fresh produce look for what’s in season. Here in Florida we have farmers that make it possible to make many different fruit and vegetable crops available year-round. Find out what’s in season over on the Fresh From Florida website.
– Watch for sales. For example, the Fresh From Florida organic tomatoes I purchased were 2-for$5 at Publix. Score!
– Plan your meals. Knowing exactly what you’re shopping for will help you to stay focused in the supermarket.
Speaking of meals, I used all of my fresh produce to make a delicious summer salad for dinner this week. It was a wonderful combination of lettuce, onions, mozzarella cheese, Fresh From Florida radishes, tomatoes, and topped with a strawberry vinaigrette dressing.
