Last summer we built a pool in our backyard. I was super pregnant, and gave birth to our youngest son last June. The pool was finished at the beginning of August. I didn’t really get to enjoy the pool with a brand new baby and two young boys in the house.
This summer, however, we are taking full advantage of having a swimming pool in our backyard! We are outside almost every afternoon, and so far we are having a super fun summer. (Also, we are only 2 weeks into summer break, so check back in with me in a few weeks and see how things are going, haha!)
Helping Your Baby Learn to Love the Water – Tips for Swimming with Your Baby
1. Safety First – Some of my greatest memories as a child are in the water, whether it was a pool or the beach. I want to be sure to give my children those same amazing childhood memories in the water! I also want to make sure we are all safe while having fun in our pool. I only have two arms and I have three small boys. To make sure everyone is safe in the pool, I love the SwimWays Infant Baby Spring Float with Sun Canopy. With this soft and secure float, I can keep my baby right next to me in the pool, but also have my hands free should I need to help one of my other kiddos with something. The float allows me to swim and enjoy pool time, while the baby is safely close by. It has built-in handles as well, so we can hold the float securely at all times.
2. Get them into the water at an early age – once you have the all clear from your doctor, it’s generally ok to bring your baby into the pool. Introducing your baby to the water at an early age will help them get used to being in it! Be sure to watch out that they don’t get too cold, as young babies cannot regulate their body temperatures like adults can.
3. Sun protection – it’s important to protect baby’s delicate skin from the sun. It’s not recommended to use sunscreen on baby’s skin before they’re six months old. So, we use swim shirts and trunks with UPF 50 protection. The SwimWays Infant Baby Spring Float has a fantastic removable and adjustable Sun Canopy with UPF 50+ sun protection, which is perfect for protecting tiny babies from the sun.
