When you make New Year’s Resolutions, do you make them for just yourself, or for your children, and for your family unit as a whole, as well? This year, in addition to personal goals for 2019, we have made some family goals! Do you have any things you’d like to accomplish this year as a family? I’ll share some of our top 2019 family goals with you:
Our 2019 Family Goals
TRAVEL MORE – We kicked off 2019 by taking a family vacation to Asheville, NC. I love the idea of vacationing the first week of the New Year. It really sets the tone for the year by beginning it together as a family, adventuring and exploring a new place. It felt wonderful to relax after the hectic holiday season, and unwind in a little cabin in the woods with my family. We have a few more smaller trips planned for this year, and I’m definitely looking forward to those!

EAT DINNER AT THE TABLE TOGETHER EVERY NIGHT – We try to do this as much as possible. Dinnertime is a time when the family can come together around the table to talk about their day. I want to keep an open dialogue with my children, and want them to have the time to tell me about their day, everyday. No TV, no devices, or phones. Good old family time chatting around the dinner table, y’all.
GET OUTSIDE MORE – This is self-explanatory! I mean, the kids spend so much time at school that they NEED the time to get fresh air and sunshine. Same goes for mom and dad, after we work indoors all day. A family walk around the lake, a trip to the local park, or a quick scooter ride on the sidewalk will get the job done!
LIMIT SCREEN TIME – Screen time is a normal part of modern life. I work on the computer all day, and my kids also love their devices. I’m all for technology and the value it brings to our lives. However, I don’t want my kids glued to their devices 24/7. I shared with you recently about how much we LOVE our Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Edition tablet. In fact, we have 3 of these amazing Amazon devices!
One of the reasons we love the Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Edition is because of it’s outstanding Parental Controls! Via the Parent Dashboard, parents are able to be actively involved in how much screen time their children are getting, what type of content kids are accessing, and setting educational goals for their kids. This is SO HELPFUL for parents!
Honestly, my kids would spend all day on their tablets if I let them. This tablet comes with a 1 year unlimited subscription for FREE to Amazon FreeTime. FreeTime Unlimited is an all-in-one subscription that gives kids access to thousands of kid-friendly books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, Audible books, and games on compatible Fire, Android, iOS and Kindle devices.
Thankfully, parents also receive access to easy-to-use parental controls that allow them to find the right balance between education and entertainment. Parents can personalize screen time limits, set educational goals, filter age-appropriate content, and also manage web browsing and content usage based on their preferences.
PS – Fire Kids Edition Tablets come with a kid-proof case and a two-year worry-free guarantee—if they break it, send it back and Amazon will replace it. No questions asked.

With my girls in high school, we’re only getting 3-4 meals at the table now. Hopefully we can do better also.
I love the idea of traveling more it is always a great way to bond as a family and create memories. I always encourage activities because everyone is on the computers enough.
Eating dinner together every night is one of my goals, too! I remember when things were slower, and we could do that all the time. These days, it’s become much harder, and I can feel a bit more distance between us all.
First, let me say that the backdrop for your first two photos is absolutely breathtaking. Second, we too are trying to make room for more travel this year. It’s hard when you have kids!!!
I love how you guys created goals together. Best of luck as you complete them!
My kids love their tablets! So happy to have them as an entertainment option!
These are excellent goals! Our family could certainly stand to unplug more often. I would also love to start having monthly family meetings.
I think these are all wonderful goals. Mine would actually be the same! I need to work on them all a bit more.
Travel more is one of our 2019 goals too. Traveling all together will be a new challenge for us! And it will be a lot of fun, I am sure!
I love your little family!! Your kiddos are so cute. We have a few Kindle Fires that we LOVE, and my son has boosted his reading because of them.
I love the idea of family goals. We want to travel more for sure. We go a lot but I want to get out of our general area more.
Our goals for 2019 is to stay healthy. 2018 was not an easy year healthwise for my family. This year, we will be making better food choices and keep our doctors appointments.
Out family goal is to travel more and because my kids are grown we are trying our best to get a couple of nights at the dinner table.
